The remains of Chief Dan Agbese, former General Manager of Radio Benue Makurdi and former Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch Magazine, were laid to rest on Friday in his village, Apa-Agila, in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
At the Saint Rose Venerini Catholic Church in Apa-Agila, where the funeral service was held, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Most Reverend Michael Apochi, delivered a homily, urging Christians to always be truthful and submit themselves to Jesus Christ in order to gain eternity and benefit from the Christian rites of burial.
Bishop Apochi described Chief Agbese as a dedicated Christian who applied the gifts God gave him as a professional journalist, never compromising in his duties and applying the ethics of the profession to the fullest for the benefit of mankind.
The Bishop condoled with the family of the deceased over their loss and prayed to God to grant them peace and mercy in their moment of pain, as well as prayed for the soul of Chief Agbese to rest in Heaven.
In a funeral oration, Benue State Deputy Governor, Dr Sam Ode, described the former Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch Magazine as a seasoned journalist and distinguished son of Benue who left behind a legacy that would continue to inspire present and future generations.
The Deputy Governor stated that Chief Agbese played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Nigerian journalism by upholding the core principles of truth, integrity, and professionalism. He said the State Executive Council recognized his service towards the State and entire nation by renaming Benue Printing Press Company as Dan Agbese Printing Press.
Dr. expressed sympathized with the immediate family of the deceased over their loss and prayed to God to grant his soul eternal rest in His Bosom.
Speaking on behalf of the family, daughter of the deceased, Ajeori Agbese thanked everyone for their presence to share in their moment of grief and wished them a safe journey to their various destinations.
