The campaign council of Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Taraba Central in the 2027 elections, has condemned the arrest of its principal by security operatives in Jalingo on Thursday evening.
According to the council, Bodejo was taken from the Blue Nile Hotel in Jalingo at about 6:30 p.m. by plainclothes security agents suspected to be from the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after paying a courtesy visit to the APC state secretariat and was driven to an undisclosed location.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Director General of the Abdullahi Bello Bodejo Campaign Council, Alhaji Adamu Isa Kurmi, the council described the arrest as a violation of the aspirant’s fundamental rights and an act of intimidation aimed at disrupting his planned engagements with party leadership and supporters across Taraba Central Senatorial District.
The council said the large turnout that received Bodejo from Jalingo Airport through the city center to the APC secretariat appeared to have unsettled political opponents, alleging that the well-organized procession had “sent fears through the spines of his opponents,” who it claimed were now seeking ways to obstruct his participation in the race despite his having duly purchased and submitted his intent and nomination forms.
The statement also noted that the May 7 visit had been formally communicated to all relevant security agencies in the state, with acknowledgment copies filed by the campaign office.
The council appealed to supporters within Taraba Central and beyond to remain calm, adding that its legal team was working to secure Bodejo’s immediate release so he could resume his campaign activities.
“Despite this development, we remain determined to bring a new lease of life to the people of Central Taraba,” the statement read.
