The Management of Benue Links Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking in Benue State through the interception and prompt reporting of suspected cases to the appropriate authorities.
The company also pledged to continue providing free transportation for rescued victims back to their places of residence, in line with the directive of the State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
This was disclosed by the General Manager of Benue Links, Comrade Alexander Fanafa, on Thursday, when he received a delegation from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, led by the Zonal Commander, Mrs. Theresa Kuma, at the company’s headquarters in Makurdi.
Comrade Fanafa noted that Benue Links has, to date, facilitated the return of over 200 trafficked victims to their homes across the country, regardless of their location.
He reiterated the company’s continued support for NAPTIP’s anti-trafficking campaigns and public enlightenment programmes. He further urged families and communities across Benue to rise collectively and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure victims are protected and perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
In her remarks, Mrs. Kuma said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between NAPTIP and Benue Links. She commended the management of Benue Links under Comrade Fanafa’s leadership for its dedication to the fight against human trafficking and its efforts toward its eradication.
Mrs. Kuma also stressed that effective collaboration between government and stakeholders remains critical to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons.
During the visit, the General Manager, Comrade Alexander Fanafa, was conferred with an Award of Honour by NAPTIP Ambassadors Against Human Trafficking.
In his response, the GM dedicated the award to God and to Governor Alia. He assured NAPTIP of the company’s readiness to continue doing its utmost to ensure the safety of Benue people, especially vulnerable persons.
