Benue State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Angwa Monday, has promised to seek government intervention to rehabilitate the dilapidated Business Engineering Skill Training Centre (BEST Centre) at North Bank, Makurdi.
Angwa gave the assurance on Thursday, during a familiarization visit to the centre, where he expressed displeasure over its poor infrastructure, including cracked walls, leaking roofs and obsolete machines and equipment needed for practical skills training.
He directed the Training Manager to submit a comprehensive memo detailing the centre’s challenges to enable him present its needs to the state government. He also invited the manager to the ministry for discussions on measures to improve the institution’s operations.
The commissioner urged staff to remain dedicated to their duties and encouraged students to be disciplined, hardworking and committed to acquiring skills that would prepare them for future employment and entrepreneurship.
Earlier, the Training Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Iorshase, welcomed the commissioner and appealed for urgent government intervention to address the centre’s infrastructural challenges and improve the welfare of staff and students.
He promised to provide a comprehensive report on the centre’s operations to facilitate further discussion.
