The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, Prof Shehu Abdul Rahman has been described as a prudent and inclusive leader who has championed equity and opportunity for women.
This was made known by Women in senior academic and administrative roles of the University in their tributes at a reception held in honour of the outgoing VC in the Old Senate Chambers on Friday.
Prof Aleruchi Chuku, leader of the delegation who led female faculty researchers and senior non‑teaching staff said: “This gathering is our collective thank‑you to Prof Abdul Rahman for his unwavering commitment to fairness, mentorship, and creating space for women to rise not just in the classroom, but in decision‑making, research, and leadership.”
She encouraged the VC to continue to contribute to the development of the education sector even in his future endeavours.
In response, Prof Abdul Rahman expressed deep gratitude to God and to the women for their inspiring tributes.
“Leadership is fundamentally about service, service to all members of our university community.
“I urge you to remain united, resourceful, and resolute in advancing FULafia’s mission and to extend the same warmth and loyalty to our incoming Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Isa Kida”.
The VC while highlighting some of his administration’s achievements said the university has built relationships as resources through collaboration and partnerships.
He noted that his administration had created a lot of centres to build knowledge and encouraged individuals, Departments and faculties to look around for further collaborations in line with the values of the institution which he said are focused on integrity, innovation and excellence.
On his part, the VC designate, Prof Mohammad Kida, while presenting a ” Memory Book” on behalf of the women, commended the leadership style of the outgoing VC ,saying it has improved teaching and learning outcomes.
“Please don’t forget us when you move on, keep us in your prayers and in your plans. We’ll need your wisdom as we build on the foundation you’ve laid,” he appealed.
In his remarks, the Personal Secretary to the VC, Dr Bashir Ozomata described the gathering as a rare moment of solidarity and testament to how the VC’s tenure reshaped the institution’s culture to be more inclusive.
He said his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of female scholars and administrators at FULafia.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of an inspirational song titled “Champion of Integrity,” composed and performed by Comrade Becky Kajo, who is a union leader and cultural activist.
The song’s lyrics praised Abdul Rahman’s transparency, humility, and dedication to lifting others especially women up the ladder.
