Academic activities are set to resume at Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), following the suspension of the strike by the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU after the successful signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Union, the Benue State Government and the University Administration.
The development was announced in a press release dated July 22, 2026, and signed by the Chairperson of ASUU-MOAUM, Comrade Dr. Ali Sule Ako.
According to the statement, the agreement was reached through constructive dialogue and mutual understanding, reflecting the commitment of all parties to resolving the issues that triggered the industrial action.
The Union stated that while it had demonstrated good faith and made sacrifices in the interest of the university community, it expects the Benue State Government and the University Administration to honour the terms of the MoU and uphold the principles of collective bargaining.
It stressed that lasting industrial harmony can only be achieved when agreements entered into by all parties are implemented promptly and in good faith.
ASUU-MOAUM directed all academic staff of the university to resume work immediately and continue to discharge their duties diligently.
The Union also expressed appreciation to its members, students, parents and the general public for their patience, understanding and solidarity throughout the period of the strike, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the welfare of its members while promoting the growth and development of the university through peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue.
