The Nasarawa State Government has refuted allegations that it has spent N707 million on refreshments and meals while neglecting rural water provision.
In a statement issued on Monday by Hon. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Public Affairs), the government described the claims as “unfounded and unsubstantiated”.
Hon Ahemba clarified that the said amount represents aggregated expenditures across multiple Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) over nine months, covering statutory and operational costs.
“The claim of N707 million spent on refreshments and meals is erroneous and misleading.The amount covers meetings, trainings, workshops, security activities, and programme implementation, not just refreshments and meals,” Ahemba said.
He also dismissed allegations of neglecting rural water access, citing significant investments in water infrastructure across the state under Governor Engr Abdullahi Sule’s administration.
“Since 2019, the government has implemented reforms and interventions through the State Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (NASWASSA) and other agencies, including major rehabilitation and upgrades of water works in several towns,” Ahemba said.
The Governor’s aide highlighted projects worth billions of naira, including grid connections, pump replacements, and procurement of operational equipment.
Ahemba urged the public to disregard the “malicious publication” by Sahara Reporters, saying it has “no iota of truth”.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to prudent financial management, accountability, and prioritising essential services for the people.
“We welcome informed scrutiny of public expenditures and urge media outlets to cross-check facts before publishing to avoid misleading the public,” Ahemba said.
