Nigerian women have been enjoined to seize the opportunity of the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration exercise to fully involve themselves in mainstream party politics as a way to end years of marginalisation.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Hon Iman Sulaiman-Ibrahim, stated this on Saturday while monitoring the e-registration exercise in Keffi Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State.
She said, “All the time we complain that, they don’t give us tickets, they don’t do this. But this is the time for us to come out in numbers and support the emergence of a great party. “
Hon Ibrahim expressed happiness that women and youths were already showing strong interests in the registration process.
“And I can see that women and youths are keying in. You can see them with their forms, registering. And I’ve challenged them to go and bring one, let each one bring one, so that we can be able to also multiply in numbers as quickly as possible. So yes, the women and youths are on board,” she added.
According to her, he was in the State as a mark of solidarity with the party, local government officials, and registration agents and she described the exercise as, “very important, not just for Mr President, but even for the nation. It is very important. This will strengthen our party.”
She noted the large turnout for the exercise across the state, saying it was a healthy competition among local governments.
“I would like my local government to come out the best in my state, that is my hope and my wish and I have brought a bit of support as well in terms of work tools and incentives”, she stated.
The Minister also said that by the deadline of 31st, the party expects to have not only registered its members but also attracted new members from other political parties.
“We’ll have significantly, you know, not just registered our members, but also drawn other members from other parties so that they can come and enjoy what we are enjoying. Because things are about to get even better at the party. We have the greatest party in Africa,” she stated.
She further disclosed that 10 computers would be delivered to the local governments and an additional 17 to the state to aid the exercise.
The Minister expressed optimism that with teamwork and sensitisation, the registration would yield impressive results.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Keffi Local Government, Hon Idris Ahmad Damagani, appreciated the Minister for the gesture and prayed God to bless him.
In another development, the Minister paid a condolence visit to the Aren Eggon, HRH Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku ( Rtd), to condole with him over the demise of Senator Godiya Akwashiki who passed on and has been buried.
She prayed God to grant the family and the entire state the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Aren Eggon, HRH Alaku, said the Late Senator was a dedicated and commitment lawmaker who prioritised the welfare of his people both in Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon where he represented.
He appreciated the minister for the visit and lauded her for alleviating the plights of women in the state and country at large.
The Minister also paid a courtesy call on the Andoma of Doma , HRH, Aliyu Onawo, at his palace in Doma LGA of the state.
