The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi has restored full clinical services, following the return to duty of members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) on Wednesday, and the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) on Monday.
The resumption of duties by the healthcare workers has resulted in comprehensive clinical coverage across departments, significantly improving patient care delivery within the tertiary health institution. The hospital management has described the coordinated return of the healthcare workers as a significant milestone towards stabilizing services, ensuring uninterrupted treatment, and strengthening confidence among patients who had experienced disruptions during the period of industrial disputes and workforce shortages.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the hospital’s Head, Public Relations & Protocol, Tsenzughul Moses, the hospital management expressed appreciation to the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his proactive intervention, alongside the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Head of Service, and other stakeholders who facilitated successful negotiations.
According to the statement, the hospital management led by Dr. Stephen Hwande noted that the renewed workforce presence has enhanced operational efficiency, enabling clinics, wards, theatres, laboratories, and emergency units to function optimally, thereby restoring normal hospital operations and reducing the backlog of pending medical consultations and procedures.”
The hospital has urged the public to continue seeking medical care, while patients previously scheduled for surgeries have been advised to report for rescheduling and subsequent operations. The management assured residents of improved service delivery and commitment to quality, accessible healthcare services.
