A Humanitarian medical organisation, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF-Holland), has donated medical supplies worth about €1,294.82 to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi to support the treatment of patients affected by Lassa fever.
The items were presented on Friday by MSF-Holland’s representative in Nigeria, Juniper Gordon, as part of the organisation’s commitment to assist the hospital in managing and treating patients affected by the disease, particularly those receiving care at the facility’s isolation centre.
Receiving the donation, the Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Terungwa Stephen Hwande, thanked the organisation for supporting the hospital during the health challenge.
Dr. Hwande said the support would strengthen the hospital’s capacity to treat infected patients and help protect healthcare workers involved in their care.
He assured that the items would be carefully used for the treatment and care of patients at the hospital’s isolation centre.
The items include surgical trousers, surgical tunics, reusable nitrile protective gloves, rubber boots and fence plastics.
The donation is expected to support ongoing efforts by health workers to contain the spread of Lassa fever and improve the management of patients affected by the disease.
