Residents of Sylvester Atachin Street in HUDCO Quarters, High-Level, Makurdi on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, mni, at Government House, Makurdi, to appeal for government intervention in the construction of their road.
In a statement on Monday, Ior Ikyereve, Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor said the delegation, led by Dr. Hyacinth Ikyaagba, a former Permanent Secretary in the Benue State Ministry of Lands and Survey, appealed to the state government to facilitate the construction of Sylvester Atachin Street, located off Jonah Jang Crescent, which is currently under construction.
Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Governor, who represented the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, emphasised the importance of citizen engagement in governance. He noted that “the present administration places high value on interaction between government and the people as a means of addressing community needs and advancing development across the state”.
According to Dr. Ode, the government has continued to create platforms for such engagements, citing a recent interaction with the Benue community in the diaspora where several issues relating to the development of the state were discussed and clarified.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Ikyaagba, said the visit was aimed at drawing the attention of the state government to the deplorable condition of Sylvester Atachin Street and to seek support for its construction. He expressed optimism that government intervention would greatly improve access and enhance the living conditions of residents in the area.
The residents also commended the ongoing development projects across Benue State, noting that the initiatives undertaken by the administration are already impacting positively on the lives of the people. They conveyed their goodwill and continued support to the governor and the government of Benue State.
The meeting ended with assurances from the deputy governor that the concerns raised would be duly communicated to the governor for consideration.
