The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that 14 persons were killed in Sunday night’s attack on residents of the Angwan Rukuba area in Jos North Local Government Area.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ewah Bassey, visited the scene of the incident. “The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, commiserates with the people of the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area over the unfortunate attack which took place on March 29, 2026, and claimed the lives of 12 persons — 10 men and 2 women. As of this morning, 2 additional corpses were discovered while our officers were combing nearby bushes and trailing suspects for possible arrests,” the statement read.
The statement further explained that at about 8:30 p.m. on March 29, 2026, the Command received a distress call reporting gunshots in the Angwan Rukuba axis. The police also noted that some of the victims are yet to be identified. “The identities of the victims are still being verified. The Commissioner of Police assures the families of the deceased that investigations are underway to track down the perpetrators,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government, through the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, imposed a 48-hour curfew on Sunday night to prevent further escalation of the violence. The curfew is being fully complied with, as commercial tricycles and taxis remain scarce within the affected areas.
