In compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwanu Disu, that bandits and criminals be flushed out before the end of 2026, the Benue State Police Command has taken adequate measures to ensure that criminal elements have no hideout or safe haven in the state.
This was made known to newsmen by the Commissioner of Police, Benue State, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, on Tuesday, at the command headquarters in Makurdi, after the walkathon exercise by men and officers of the command as part of the 2026 Police Week celebration.
CP Emenari further revealed that IGP Disu has provided the much-needed manpower and logistic support to the command to ensure it achieves improved security. He added that His Excellency, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has equally given the police in the state maximum support in their operations and emphasised that the command is working in synergy with other security agencies as well as the 23 local government chairmen across the state to tackle the issues of insecurity in the state.
“We are celebrating the 2026 Police Week for improved security, improved synergy with other security agencies, and celebrating the IGP for his efforts to end banditry in the state and the gradual return of peace to Benue State,” CP Emenari stated.
CP Emenari emphasised that the 2026 Police Week celebration aims to establish the desired synergy and improve security across the state and ensure the safety of lives and property of the Benue public. He reassured the command’s readiness to sustain the success so far recorded but was quick to appeal to members of the public to cooperate with the police to track down criminal elements so they can face the wrath of the law.
He expressed gratitude to officers and men of the command as well as other sister agencies who participated in the walkathon exercise and celebrated the 2026 Police Week. He described the media as a formidable and dependable ally in peace-building and commended the media for their support.
As part of the 2026 Police Week celebration, the police command carried out a medical outreach on Monday, at Agboo community, behind Makurdi Modern Market, as well as a sanitation exercise to mark the week-long celebration.
