The political landscape in Buruku shifted this week as Gideon Dooyum Inyom formally declared his intention to contest the Buruku Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Unlike the routine declarations that often mark Nigerian politics, Inyom’s entry is anchored on a career defined by public service, technological innovation, and academic rigour. He enters the race not as a beneficiary of political patronage, but as a professional with a track record that, supporters say, speaks louder than campaign promises.
Inyom first came into public service as Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Gabriel Suswam on Information and Communications Technology. In that capacity, he helped shape Benue State’s digital governance framework at a pivotal period in the state’s development, laying foundations that still influence ICT policy today.
Beyond government, he founded I-Compliance Tech Nig Ltd, a firm built on his conviction that the private sector must co-drive national transformation. As a technology entrepreneur in a region where such ventures remain rare, he has consistently argued that progress must rest on innovation, not politics alone.
Years before the Federal Government unveiled its whistleblower reward policy, Inyom designed an anti-corruption software platform to protect whistleblowers in Nigeria. Colleagues describe the move as a product of foresight and deep engagement with governance challenges.
His reputation as a pioneer was further cemented with the development of a Security Surveillance Technology system to tackle rural insecurity, banditry, and terrorism. The system integrates military-grade surveillance, real-time data gathering, precision response mechanisms, and artificial intelligence-backed intelligence support. For Buruku Constituency, which has suffered repeated violent attacks and displacement, observers note that Inyom brings practical security frameworks to the table.
Inyom has also been vocal during crises. In August 2025, following armed attacks on communities in Guma Local Government Area, he confirmed tactical deployments, documented patterns of land seizure, and called for a humanitarian emergency. At a time when many officials remained silent, he spoke with what residents described as clarity and compassion, ensuring displaced communities were not forgotten.
Academically, Inyom is grounded in History and holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Development Studies, with research focused on infrastructure-led development and policy systems. He also holds an Executive Certificate in Innovation for Economic Development from the Harvard Kennedy School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
His scholarship is not confined to theory. His research examines how roads, bridges, water systems, and electricity infrastructure directly impact livelihoods, positioning him to legislate with evidence rather than impulse, analysts say.
Inyom is also an author. His works include _One Woman Man: Choosing God, Marriage, and Destiny in the World of Side Chics_, published on Amazon Kindle, and _Bishop Nathan Nyitar Inyom, The Man of God in a Godless Society_ (2024), a tribute to faith and leadership. He has contributed chapters to published works on governance and development, building a reputation as a public intellectual.
Buruku Federal Constituency, like much of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, faces insecurity, underdevelopment, and political marginalisation. Stakeholders argue that the constituency needs more than representation in Abuja. It needs a lawmaker with ideas, evidence, and credibility.
Inyom’s campaign, running under the hashtag #NoLimitsIDG, has gained national traction online for its incisive political analysis and development commentary. Supporters say the digital presence reflects years of leading public discourse long before seeking elective office.
“As Nigeria’s democracy matures, voters are distinguishing between those who seek power for privilege and those who see office as a platform for sacrifice,” said a political analyst in Makurdi. “Inyom’s credibility did not start with an Expression of Interest form. The form only formalises years of service, innovation, and advocacy.”
With the 2027 general elections approaching, Buruku faces a defining choice. Inyom’s supporters insist he represents substance over rhetoric and service over privilege.
By all indications, the race for Buruku is on. And Gideon Dooyum Inyom says he is ready.
