Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, was among top dignitaries who attended the Mid-19th General Church Council, GCC, meeting of the Mambilla Baptist Convention, Nigeria, MBCN, held in Gembu, headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area.
Governor Kefas served as the Special Guest of Honour and Guest Speaker at the event, which brought together church leaders, delegates, and members from across the convention for fellowship and deliberations on the progress and challenges confronting the church.
Addressing the gathering on Thursday, Governor Kefas commended the MBCN for its role in promoting peace, moral values, and community development in Taraba State and beyond. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the church and government in tackling social challenges, fostering unity, and driving sustainable development.
“The church remains a critical partner in our quest for a peaceful and prosperous Taraba. Your prayers, teachings, and humanitarian interventions continue to shape lives and strengthen our communities,” the Governor said.
He urged church leaders to remain steadfast in their spiritual and social responsibilities, noting that the current administration is committed to inclusive governance and will continue to support faith-based institutions in their mission to serve humanity.
The GCC meeting, a major decision-making body of the MBCN, provides a platform for reviewing the convention’s activities, setting new directions, and addressing issues affecting member churches. This year’s session featured reports from departments, strategic planning, and prayers for the state and nation.
President of the Mambilla Baptist Convention, Rev Godswill Sol, in his remarks, thanked Governor Kefas for honouring the invitation and for his administration’s support to the church. He reaffirmed the convention’s commitment to partnering with government to promote peace, education, and healthcare in communities across the Mambilla Plateau.
The event also drew traditional rulers, government officials, and representatives of sister denominations, underscoring the convention’s influence within and outside Taraba State.
The Mid-19th GCC meeting ended with resolutions aimed at strengthening evangelism, youth development, and social intervention programmes across the MBCN.
