The Campaign Organisation of Dr. Mike Omeri, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate for Nasarawa South, has appointed Hajiya Maryam Osuza as its official spokesperson.
The spokesperson has also pledged to run an issue-based campaign centered on the socio-economic needs of the zone.
At a press briefing in Lafia on Tuesday in Lafia, Osuza said the campaign will focus on competence and solutions rather than divisive politics ahead of the senatorial election.
The newly appointed spokesperson expressed gratitude to the Dr. Omeri for finding her worthy of appointment.
”I accept this responsibility with humility, dedication and a deep sense of duty.I assure Dr. Omeri and his political associates of Nasarawa South that I will discharge this assignment with honesty, professionalism and unwavering commitment”, she said.
Osuza emphasised that the upcoming election transcends routine partisan friction, describing it as a defining moment for the socio-economic future of the zone.
She highlighted several critical challenges currently facing the district’s five local government areas including; Awe, Doma, Keana, Lafia, and Obi.
She noted the primary challenges of the southern zone as youth unemployment, agricultural insecurity, poor rural infrastructure, and underfunded healthcare and educational systems.
”This campaign is bigger than politics
It cuts across political party. It is about the future of our people. It is about restoring confidence in public service and ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard at the highest level of national decision-making”, she added.
While marketing the candidate, the newly appointed spokesperson pointed to Dr. Omeri’s extensive career in public administration, most notably his tenure as the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Osuza described Omeri as a “bridge-builder and consensus leader” with over thirty years of public service experience who has consistently used his network to mentor and empower the youth, women, and elderly in Nasarawa State.
She rejected the use of identity politics, asserting that Dr. Omeri remains a unifying figure across all ethnic and religious divides in the district.
”Whether you are from Awe, Doma, Keana, Lafia or Obi Local Government Area, whether you are Christian or Muslim, whether young or old, Dr. Mike Omeri sees only one people with one common destiny,” she said.
Osuza made a solemn commitment on behalf of the campaign team to maintain a high level of decorum, vowing that they would refuse to engage in divisive rhetoric or smear campaigns.
”We will not campaign on the basis of hatred, falsehood or division. We shall campaign on ideas, competence, character and a clear vision for the future,” she declared.
She therefore called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, farmers, artisans, and students across Nasarawa South to rally behind Dr. Omeri’s candidacy, describing the election as a clear choice for proven capability.
”This is the time to choose experience over experimentation. This is the time to choose integrity over empty statements”,Osuza urged.
