The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Chief Kefas Ropshak, has unveiled Dr. Daniel Kim as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
Ropshak made the announcement on Friday during a PDP stakeholders’ caucus meeting held in Jos. Introducing his running mate, the PDP flag bearer described Dr. Daniel Kim as an experienced educationist from the northern region of Plateau and of Berom extraction. He said Kim’s wealth of experience and commitment to service would complement the party’s vision of improving the welfare of the less privileged.
Ropshak expressed appreciation to the party’s state and national leadership for their confidence and support, assuring members that he would not betray the trust reposed in him. He pledged to unite members of the party and work collectively toward victory in the 2027 general election.
According to him, the PDP has a strong chance of winning the Plateau State governorship election. He added that all party members would be treated fairly and given equal opportunities.
He appealed to aspirants who lost during the party’s primaries to remain committed to the PDP, assuring them that they would be carried along in the party’s activities.
Speaking on the party’s internal crisis, Ropshak maintained that the faction led by Nyesom Wike is the authentic leadership of the PDP and expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the 2027 elections. He further stated that the PDP national leadership had dissolved the Raymond Dabo-led executive committee in Plateau State.
The governorship candidate also declared that he would remain in the PDP despite pressure from other political parties. Ropshak criticised the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, alleging that despite receiving significantly higher federal allocations than the previous administration led by Sen. Simon Lalong, there were few visible projects to justify the funds.
“Can anyone point to capital projects that will be commissioned before the next election?” he asked.
In an interview with journalists, Ropshak promised that, if elected governor, he would tackle the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, end the incessant killings, and transform the state’s economy for the benefit of all citizens, particularly the common people.
Earlier at the caucus meeting, the Plateau State PDP Chairman, Peter Tongshin, informed members that the party had successfully submitted the names of its candidates, including that of the governorship candidate, to the appropriate authorities.
Tongshin also announced the reaffirmation of Chris Hassan as the Director-General of Chief Kefas Ropshak’s campaign organisation.
Also speaking, John Bull Shekarau, Plateau South Senatorial District hopeful, warned party members against infiltration by political opponents and cautioned against anti-party activities.
He stressed that the PDP would not tolerate any form of anti-party conduct from its members as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
