Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Friday swore in Godwin Anya as a Member of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission.
The Governor also inaugurated the Chairman and Board of Directors of Benue Television, BTV, with Rev. Fr. Patrick Tor Alumuku as Chairman.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia charged Anya to uphold professionalism, fairness, and integrity in the discharge of his duties. He equally called on the new board to bring fresh ideas and innovation that will reposition the state-owned television station to meet current technological demands.
He urged the board members to serve as worthy ambassadors of the state and ensure that BTV becomes a leading voice in projecting the policies, culture, and development of Benue to the world.
“You have been entrusted with a critical responsibility to transform Benue Television into a modern, competitive, and people-oriented station,” the Governor said. “I expect you to embrace new technology, improve programming, and make BTV the best it can be for the people of Benue State.”
Responding on behalf of the board, the Chairman, Rev. Fr. Patrick Tor Alumuku, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged that the board would work assiduously to reposition the station and place it among the top 10 television stations in Nigeria.
“We are committed to restoring the lost glory of Benue Television,” Fr. Alumuku said. “With the support of management, staff, and government, we will ensure that BTV delivers quality, credible, and developmental content that reflects the aspirations of Benue people.”
The board also comprises Dr. Thaddeus Hanmakyugh, who will serve as Secretary; Mrs. Jennifer Ejembi, former Executive Director of NTA Ibadan; Dr. Barnabas Gbam, former Rector of NTA College, Jos; and Engr. Sunday Iji, former Director of Engineering Services, Radio Benue, Makurdi.
The newly inaugurated BTV Board is expected to hold meetings with the management and staff of the station in the coming days to chart a new course for the station.
