The Archbishop of the All Nations Evangelism Ministry, ANEM, Dr. Yimam Orkwar has distanced the church from the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Arch Bishop Orkwar said the endorsement by the Charismatic Bishops of Nigeria remains the conviction of the group and not the generality of the body of Christ in Nigeria.
Arch Bishop Orkwar made the clarification while presenting a communique at the 3” Quarter Synod of the Church held during the Ministerial Development Seminar on Saturday, 19 September, 2026 in Makurdi.
The Arch Bishop who is also the Chairman of Synod of ANEM and President, Christian Association of Clergies in Nigeria, explained that the Charismatic Bishops of Nigeria who announced the endorsement is an association in the Christian community and the views were strictly theirs.
According to him, the only body that speaks for the generality of the Christian community in Nigeria is the Christian Association (CAN), therefore, the endorsement remains the conviction of the Charismatic Bishops.
He said the Svnod called on church leaders to trade with utmost caution on issues of prophecies as regards the forth coming elections.
“As people of God, church leaders must not be carried away by sentiments and personal interests but seek earnestly the perfect will of God and remain united as a church in pursuit of divine purpose”, he said..
The Arch Bishop said Synod further expressed the hope that investigations in the death of 37 minors in custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) in Niger State would unravel the cause of the deaths and result to the adoption of measures to prevent a reoccurrence of such incidence.
“They also appealed for the improvement of custodial facilities by security agencies. “Synod notes with sadness the death of 37 miners who are believed to have died as a result of suffocation while in the custody of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Niger State Command, and condoles with the families of the deceased and the government of Niger State and sues for calm”.
“Synod observes with great concern unabated incidents of terrorism and insurgency which manifest in continuing threats by BOKO HARAM and; ISWAP, banditry and mass abductions as witnessed in incidents of kidnapping, affecting communities, schools and transport routes”, the Archbishop stated.
He said the Synod also observed persistent attacks by herders in farming communities such as recent cases in Ayilamo Logo, Ugboju, Otukpo areas of Benue State where police officers and members of the community were killed and travelers abducted saying these are indicators that the responsibility of securing lives and property should be handled with utmost .
“Synod therefore calls on Government at all levels; the traditional institutions , community and church leaders to work together to effectively combat insecurity in all its forms and Shades”, he added.
The group equally cautioned that as the nation gets into the period af electioneering campaigns; political players should guard against acts that would worsen insecurity recommending that dialogue in an atmosphere of peace should be the watch word.
The Synod further draws the attention of the Economic Team of President Tinubu’s administration to the frequent rise in the pump price cl petrol and its resultant effect on the cost of living on ordinary Nigerians and advised the Economic Team to strengthen efforts at improving the situation so as to guarantee better standard of living of Nigerians.
They also called on Christian faithful to be steadfast in praying for the nation and its future, especially as the Nation gets into election next year noting that participation is necessary as prayer alone would not get it done. The communique stated further: “Synod reminds that as a Ministry our faith in the covenant Keeping God remains unshaken that God we take us to the land of promise”
