Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for its sustained efforts to dismantling gun-running networks and intercepting illegal firearms within the State.
The governor’s commendation followed the recent arrest of Aisha Mohammed, a 23-year-old resident of Bwari in the Federal Capital Territory, in Keffi for illegal arms courier activities.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the suspect was taken into custody after security operatives found her carrying 202 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and three empty magazines.
Addra stated that the DSS had previously apprehended several other suspected arms couriers between August and September 2026. Among those detained, he noted, were 40-year-old Hassan Sani, 41-year-old Abdulkadir Idrissa, and 70-year-old Salihu Garba (also known as Nabayi).
“These operations led to the recovery of 678 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 99 rounds of 7.5mm ammunition, and various other illegal items,” he said.
In another intercept along the Keffi-Abuja highway in August 2026, he said the operatives arrested Ismail Lawalli, a native of Zamfara State, who was transportating 1,262 pieces of assorted ammunition.
Governor Sule applauded the officers of the DSS and partnering security organs for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the State. He reaffirmed his administration’s support to maintaining a crime- free society and assured the security of continued assistance.
He also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agents to eradicate crime across Nasarawa State.
