The Nasarawa State Government says it is taking steps to regulate the increasing house rents across the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.
Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Public Affairs, Hon Peter Ahemba, disclosed this at a press conference in Lafia on Monday.
According to him, the government is working with the State House of Assembly to enact a law protecting tenants from arbitrary rent increases and ensuring fair rents.
Ahemba assured residents that the proposed law would bring relief, noting the governor’s recent flag-off of a housing estate for civil servants in Akurba community, Lafia, with plans to replicate it in other LGAs to help in alleviating the housing challenge.
On poor electricity supply, the SSA said the inauguration of the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC) was a step towards improvement.
Ahemba also said Governor Sule supports zoning of the governorship seat to Nasarawa West Senatorial District for equity and justice.
He added however that no APC member would be denied the chance to contest.
He thanked security agencies for curbing kidnapping and crimes, urging citizens to report suspicious activities and cooperate with authorities to ensure safety and security.
