The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, has condemned the constant harassment of journalists while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
This was contained in a communiqué issued and signed by the Chairman, communiqué drafting committee, Mr Member Madaki and Secretary, Isaac Ukpoju at the end of the council’s monthly congress held on Thursday in Lafia.
The communique stated that the union led by Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, resolved to protect journalists’ integrity at all costs.
“The Congress condemned the constant harassment of journalists in the course of carrying out their editorial responsibility, insisting that the integrity of journalists must be respected and protected at all costs,” the communiqué said.
It however emphasised the need for journalists to exhibit professionalism in their conduct, both in public and private and urged security agencies to tackle kidnapping and banditry, especially in rural areas.
The union stressed the importance of unity and peace in the state and appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for the massive infrastructural development and relative peace in the State..
“The Congress appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule and his team for the massive infrastructural development across the state during his tenure,” the communiqué noted.
The union also challenged those aspiring to take over from Governor Sule in 2027 to be ready to build on the foundation laid by the governor.
