President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 26 new appointments into 10 federal government agencies and commissions, in a major shake-up aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery.
The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
To fill the vacancy at the Federal Housing Authority, President Tinubu appointed Mr. Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director, Finance. The position became vacant following the resignation of Mr. Mathias Byuan to contest the governorship election in Benue State.
Mr. Iorja, an economist, legal scholar and academic, is currently the Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC.
Former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayo Fayose, was named Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA. He will serve alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engr. Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors.
The REA board also comprises the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors previously appointed by the President.
In another key appointment, President Tinubu named Major General Junaid Bindawa, retired, as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Eight other appointments were made to the commission.
Former member of the House of Representatives from Lagos, Hon. Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was appointed Secretary of the Commission. Three new commissioners are Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian, representing Benue; Mr. Oladele Olatubosun, representing Oyo; and Mr. Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Kaduna.
Other members of the commission appointed are Dr. Mai Adamu Yau from Borno, Ms. Ginika Florence Tor from Enugu, Engr. Lawrence Okoh from Edo, and Ms. Bello Morenike Iyabode from Kogi.
In further changes, Mr. Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who was previously appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, NLTF, has been redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC.
President Tinubu also appointed Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, NPC, and Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, NBET.
Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, NAEC.
Engr. Julius Oloro, a former local government chairman, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, NCAM, in Kwara State. He replaces Dr. A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
The President also constituted a new board for the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman. Members of the board are Ms. Mohammed Asmau, Mr. Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Mr. Louis O. Ndukwe, Mr. Amaechi Ugwele, and Mr. Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Mr. Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He replaces Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, in April.
According to the statement, all the appointments take immediate effect, the Presidency said.
