In a landmark move poised to revolutionize healthcare and human capital development in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia, has signed into law, the Bill establishing Labe College of Nursing Sciences, Gboko.
This pivotal legislative action underscores Governor Alia’s unwavering commitment to accessible, quality education and robust healthcare infrastructure for the people of Benue.
The Governor in a statement signed by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev stated that, “the establishment of the College in Gboko is far more than an academic endeavor; it is a strategic investment in the future well-being and prosperity of the region. He said the College will serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity, bringing specialized medical training closer to communities that need it most and addressing the pressing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
According to the Governor, “the College will significantly enhance the local healthcare workforce, providing a steady stream of highly trained nurses and midwives, which will directly improve patient care, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, as well as strengthen community health services, particularly in rural areas.
“It is common knowledge that the presence of such a tertiary institution often acts as a catalyst for broader regional development, stimulating local economies through job creation, increased commerce, and enhanced infrastructure. Also, beyond clinical practice, graduates will be equipped to lead public health initiatives, disseminate crucial health information, and drive preventive care campaigns, fostering healthier lifestyles within their communities.”
