Gov Alia sues for active, peaceful APC ward congresses

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its ward congresses today across the 276 Council Wards in the state, the Executive Governor and Leader of the party in Benue State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has called on members to actively participate to build a formidable future for the state.

In a Press Statement signed by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, Governor Alia stated that, “Today marks a pivotal moment for APC’s grassroots democracy. He emphasized that the congresses are not just an exercise but the very heartbeat of our collective aspiration, forming the foundation upon which he will continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to every Benue citizen. He urged members to view their active involvement not merely as a right, but as a sacred duty and an indispensable ingredient for the continued success of the state.

“The Governor encouraged delegates to see the congresses as their opportunity to directly shape the leadership that will steer the party forward at the ward level, which is crucial for selecting leaders who truly represent our collective will and vision for a new Benue.

“Governor Alia further explained that participation in the ward congresses will ensure the APC remains vibrant, democratic, and truly representative. This process, he noted, builds a robust structure from the ground up, guaranteeing that the party in Benue State is not only strong but also deeply rooted in the aspirations of its members.

“He assured all party members that the congresses will be conducted with utmost fairness, transparency, and adherence to party guidelines, as every step has been taken to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants and a credible process.”

According to the statement, the Governor, however, warned that any individual or group intending to disrupt, foment trouble, or engage in any form of mischief should steer clear of all congress venues.

“The government will not tolerate any acts of hooliganism, thuggery, or attempts to undermine the peaceful and democratic process,” he stated adding that security agencies have been fully mobilized and are on high alert to ensure the safety and security of all participants and to deal decisively with anyone attempting to derail this important exercise.
