The Member of the House of Representatives for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has compensated victims of attacks and kidnapping incidents with foodstuffs in Dengi, Kanam Local Government Area.
It will be recalled that 374 persons were recently kidnapped in parts of Dengi, particularly in Garga. Among the kidnapped victims, 11 were killed, including a village head. It was also noted that over 200 persons had earlier been killed during an invasion of Garga District, where the lawmaker hails from.
Speaking with journalists during the distribution of the foodstuffs on Sunday, Rt. Hon. Gagdi, said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the negative effects of the incidents on his constituents. He revealed that a separate set of grains had been provided for distribution to the less privileged to support them during the forthcoming Ramadan fast, an annual Islamic ritual and one of the five pillars of Islam.
The distribution of the food items which took place at his residence in Dengi, the headquarters of Kanam Local Government Area, was witnessed by stakeholders from Kanam, irrespective of political party differences.
Items distributed included 200 bags of 25kg rice, 200 bags of 100kg maize, 100 bags of 100kg beans, corn, millet, 50kg bags of sugar, milk, clothing materials, cement, and Bajaj motorcycles to compensate those whose motorcycles were stolen.
Speaking separately at the event, the Ra’ana of Garga, Alhaji Garba Mohammed; the Chairman of the Distribution Committee, Hon. Sa’adak Garga; and an opinion leader, Hon. Ayuba Pyakdon, all appreciated Hon. Gagdi’s kind gesture.
The Ra’ana told the gathering that Gagdi had performed much better than his predecessors and maintained that the legislator is a promise keeper. The traditional leader also stated that there is now relative peace in the area, with increased security presence.
Similarly, Hon. Pyakdon noted that Hon. Gagdi has effectively represented the entire constituency, which covers the three local government areas of Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam.
On his part, the Chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee, Hon. Sa’adak Garga, pledged that all victims would be treated in accordance with the template provided by the community. Hon. Sa’adak Garga further noted that over 200 million naira had been paid to different kidnappers as ransom.
Beneficiaries of the palliatives expressed gratitude, thanked God on his behalf, and prayed that Almighty God would reward him accordingly.
Rt. Hon. Gagdi has been described by many of his constituents as one of the most vocal members of the 9th and 10th Assemblies, sponsoring bills with positive and direct impacts on Nigerian citizens.
