In a deliberate move to address the housing deficit in Benue State, Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has initiated the takeover of housing projects constructed by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under the National Housing Program.
The Technical Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev in a statement on Wednesday, said
Governor Alia’s intervention aims to provide affordable housing for the people of Benue State with the over 116 housing units built by the Federal Government.
According to the statement, Governor Alia while inspecting the facilities at Tse Ukpahar, behind Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, said his administration is committed to ensuring that every Benue citizen has access to decent and affordable housing.
He said the houses will be completed and made available to Benue residents at affordable rates, thus bringing hope to many who have been struggling with housing challenges even as he revealed that his administration is partnering with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to provide mortgage facilities for public and civil servants alike to obtain these houses when they are put up for sale.
The takeover is part of the Government’s efforts to revitalize such projects in the state and stimulate economic growth.
Meanwhile, the state Government will invest in completing the facilities, creating jobs and opportunities for locals.
The statement further disclosed that the initiative which marks a significant step towards addressing Benue State’s housing needs, demonstrates Governor Alia’s dedication to improving the lives of citizens.
