The Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Fidelis Unongo, has declared his intention to contest for the Benue North East Senatorial seat (Zone A), promising effective and development driven representation for the people of the district.
Unongo made his intention known while interfacing with journalists on Tuesday at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Makurdi, where he stated that his decision to vie for the Senate is driven by the need to give the people of Kwande and the entire Benue Zone A a voice that will neither ignore their pains nor overlook their progress.
According to him, the time has come for the senatorial seat of Benue Zone A to reflect fairness, equity, and inclusive representation.
“Kwande has been denied Senate representation since 1999. The time has come for them to also go and represent their people at the National Assembly. What the people need now is effective representation, one that understands their struggles and is committed to genuine development,” he said.
Unongo expressed confidence that the aspiration is driven by a worthy cause and assured that the movement enjoys growing support from across the senatorial district.
He stressed that the state needs leaders with developmental minds who can collaborate effectively with the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia to accelerate the growth and transformation of Benue State.
“We need people with progressive thinking to team up with the Governor and move Benue State forward. Representation must not be about occupying a seat; it must be about delivering value to the people,” he noted.
The governor’s aide said his aspiration is rooted in service, experience, and preparedness, adding that he is ready to provide purposeful leadership and effective legislative advocacy for the people of Benue Zone A.
“I am ready and prepared. I understand the responsibility ahead and committed to giving the district the quality representation it deserves,” he added.
Unongo also called on stakeholders and the media to support efforts aimed at strengthening democratic participation and ensuring that the voices of the people of Benue Zone A are adequately represented at the national level.
