The Benue State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. I’m Solomon Iorpev, has stressed the need for strategic information to build local resilience against the impact of global change in Benue State.
Chief Iorpev stated this on Wednesday while receiving members of the Benue State Council for Climate Change in his office.
He noted that global changes in climate, economy, technology and information flow are affecting food production, security, livelihoods and public perception in Benue.
“Benue cannot be isolated from global change. What we need is strategic information-timely, accurate and people-centred, to help our farmers adapt, our youth compete and our communities remain resilient,” the Commissioner said.
He said the Ministry will strengthen grassroots communication, deploy digital tools for early warning, and partner with the NIPR and development agencies to bridge the information gap.
Hon. Iorpev added that building local resilience requires not just government action, but informed citizens who understand global trends and local solutions.
Earlier, the leader of the team, Dr Daniel Mailumo, who was in his office to felicitate with him on his new appointment, said his team was in the Ministry to seek collaboration and create awareness on how climate change impacts can be mitigated.
