The Benue State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of former Speaker and Majority Leader, Honourables Hyacinth Dajoh and Saater Tiseer, for three months from legislative sittings and functions, respectively.
The House took the decision on Tuesday during plenary at the Hallowed Chamber of the Benue State House of Assembly in Makurdi, after the Majority Leader, Hon. Thomas Dugeri, moved a motion to that effect.
Earlier, Hon. Dugeri, the mover of the motion, informed the House that Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh of Gboko West State Constituency and Hon. Saater Tiseer of Mbagwa State Constituency had been on suspension for the past six months. He stated that the suspension period for the two honourable members had elapsed and they were due for recall.
He further noted that the duo had approached the court to challenge their suspension, and in line with established parliamentary practice, the House does not deliberate on matters pending before a court of law.
The House subsequently resolved to extend the suspension of Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh of Gboko West State Constituency and Hon. Saater Tiseer of Mbagwa State Constituency by three months, pending the determination of the matter by the court.
Seconding the motion, Hon. Simon Gabo supported the extension of the suspension for three months, pending the court’s decision on the case filed by the duo against their suspension.
Speaking with journalists after plenary, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Elias Audu, said the extension of the suspension of the former Speaker and Majority Leader, Honourables Hyacinth Dajoh and Saater Tiseer, was in accordance with the standing rules of the House.
