The Benue State House of Assembly has directed the Operation Zenda Joint Security Taskforce to mount a checking point at Kam Area, situated at the boundaries of Ukum, Logo and Katsina Ala Local Government Areas of Benue State, to contain insecurity in the three Local Government Areas.
The House, presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Alfred Emberga, gave the directive during Monday’s Plenary held at the Benue State House of Assembly, Makurdi, when the Member Representing Katsina Ala West State Constituency, Hon. Peter Ipusu, moved a motion to that effect.
The House, in its resolution, condemned the abduction and murder of the Kindred Head of Mbajiir in Tongov District, Katsina Ala Local Government Area, Chief Sughter Agamber. The House also urged the Benue State Police Command, the Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to synergize their efforts to trace, arrest, and bring the abductors and killers of Chief Sughter to ensure justice is done.
Earlier, the mover of the motion, Member Representing Katsina Ala West Constituency, Hon. Peter Ipusu, noted that in the past two and a half years, the Tenth Benue Assembly has received and deliberated on several motions pertaining to insecurity in Benue State generally and Katsina Ala Local Government Area in particular.
Hon. Ipusu further noted that while the daily abduction and murder of unarmed civilians in Katsina Ala Local Government Area appear to have reduced, the challenge of insecurity in the area is not yet over. He informed the House that on Friday, 6th March, 2026, the Kindred Head of Mbajiir, Tongov, Chief Sughter Agamber, was abducted by unknown gunmen at Kam Village, Tongov in Katsina Ala Local Government Area.
He informed the House that, Tor Sankera, Ter Katsina Ala, and Chairmen of Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Councils, who were informed of this incident, made frantic efforts to rescue the victim but to no avail. He added that, in sad circumstances, on Saturday morning, 7th March, 2026, the lifeless body of the traditional Ruler was found in a nearby bush.
Members of the House, including Hon. Michael Audu, Hon. Simon Gabo, Hon. Abraham Jabi, and Hon. Jonathan Agbidye, contributed to the debate, calling for increased security measures to curtail the menace.
Ruling, the Speaker, Hon. Emberga, charged the House Standing Committee on Security, Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs to interface with the leadership of Operation Zenda Joint Security Taskforce and the Director-General, Benue State Homeland Security, to stop the attacks and other insecurity in the State.
