The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Wannune, FPW, Benue State, Dr. Tyover Ashinya, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND programme, which has made access to higher education much easier for indigent Nigerians.
He stated this on Friday, during the school’s fourth matriculation ceremony. According to him, the programme has eased the financial burden on poor citizens, facilitating their pursuit and completion of higher education.
Dr. Ashinya disclosed that over 70% of the students at FPW are beneficiaries of NELFUND, emphasizing that the president’s dedication to the institution’s growth, along with support from Senator George Akume, the host community, and other stakeholders, has made the school stand out among its peers. He urged students to avoid social vices, take their studies seriously, and aim for the best.
“I want to especially commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making tertiary education accessible for Nigerian youths. It is documented that over 70% of students at Federal Polytechnic Wannune benefit from this programme.
“Federal Polytechnic Wannune is also the fourth most applied-for polytechnic in Nigeria, according to JAMB records. I thank Senator George Akume, traditional rulers, and other supporters for their assistance, and I promise not to let you down. I advise the new students to celebrate responsibly, focus on their education, and stay clear of social vices, as offenders will not be spared.”
The representative of President Bola Tinubu at the event and the Chairman of the FPW Governing Council, Chief Michael Msuaan, reaffirmed the commitment of Mr President to expanding course offerings, the labour force, and infrastructure to meet the educational needs of youths. He also assured collaboration with relevant authorities for the school’s growth and appreciated the Rector and his team for a job well done, urging parents and guardians to support and utilize the polytechnic effectively.
Speaking during the event, representative of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Mr. Ayom Aondoakaa, commended the Rector’s leadership, noting that his decisive actions have accelerated the school’s growth compared to others nationwide, and encouraged Dr. Ashinya to consider adding employable courses, promising unreserved support.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Ikyoyia, Chief Anaibo Gwa, expressed happiness that the school is located in his community and assured of his sustained support for its development.
During the 2025 matriculation ceremony, more than 3,000 students were enrolled across 18 National Diploma and 9 Higher National Diploma programmes offered by the school.
