The Benue State House of Assembly has unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, citing his administration’s outstanding performance and transformative achievements in the last three years.
The resolution was adopted during Thursday’s plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga, following a motion moved by Hon. Elias Audu, member representing Gwer State Constituency and Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Information.
Hon. Audu recalled that Governor Alia assumed office on May 29, 2023, at a time when the state faced enormous governance and developmental challenges, including unpaid salaries, pensions, gratuities, and decaying public infrastructure.
He noted that within three years, the administration had restored confidence in governance through the prompt and regular payment of workers’ salaries, pensions, and gratuities, alongside the implementation of people-oriented policies and projects that have positively impacted citizens.
The lawmaker highlighted significant investments across infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public institutions. He cited the establishment of the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh, as well as the renovation of the Benue State Secretariat, the House of Assembly Complex, the State Judiciary Headquarters, and the Ministry of Justice.
On industrialization, Hon. Audu commended the Governor’s commitment to economic revitalization through the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC). He said BIPC had facilitated the establishment of the Food Basket Brewery, Fruitcon Juice Company, Bensono Concentrate Factory, Bread Factory, Pure Water Factory, and other strategic investments.
He also noted ongoing efforts to revive Taraku Mills, describing it as a strategic intervention that would create jobs, expand markets for local farmers, and boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Seconding the motion, Hon. Michael Audu, representing Adoka/Ugboju State Constituency lauded the Governor’s achievements and supported the motion.
Contributing, the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Abu Umoru, and Hon. Emmanuel Blessed-Onah of Oju 1 described Governor Alia as a hardworking and committed leader, and expressed full support for the motion.
After extensive deliberations, the House unanimously commended Governor Alia for his visionary leadership, commitment to good governance, and dedication to the development of Benue State.
“We call on political leaders, traditional rulers, and all well-meaning citizens to continue supporting the Governor in his efforts to advance peace, unity, and sustainable development across the state,” the House stated.
In his ruling, Speaker Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga commended the Governor’s remarkable achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, commerce, and industrial development. He described the administration’s performance as unprecedented and reflective of purposeful leadership focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State.
Consequently, the House unanimously adopted the motion and passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, reaffirming its support for his administration and expressing confidence in its capacity to sustain the ongoing transformation of the state.
