‘Be lenient to detained Oscar Keana’, Archbishop Jatau appeals

Archbishop Prof. Emmanuel Jatau has appealed to the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule to exercise humanitarian grounds in the detention of Abdulkarim Alanana Mai’yau, popularly known as Oscar Keana.

Mai’yau is currently facing legal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Lafia in Suit No. FHC/LF/176C/2026, over published statements concerning the governor.

In a formal letter dated October 7, 2026, the founder of the Abuja-based Faith Hill Prophetic Assembly said that he has no personal ties with Mai’yau and was acting without self-interest.

He acknowledged Governor Sule’s constitutional rights to protect his public office and personal reputation through judicial channels but noted that effective leadership also calls for restraint and reconciliation whenever possible and appealed to the governor to show statesmanship by taking into account the defendant’s welfare and family situation.

He advocated for options permitted under the law, such as granting bail or reasonable release conditions, allowing Mai’yau to respond to the charges while remaining fully compliant with the judicial process.

The Archbishop emphasised that offering such leniency would neither presume innocence nor undermine the governor’s legal standing, rather, it would display forbearance and leadership in the face of personal grievance.

Jatau urged faith and community leaders to demonstrate how conflicts can be resolved through dialogue, wisdom, and a commitment to peace.
