Thousands of Nasarawa women have been supported with livelihoods items aimed at expanding social welfare and guaranteeing sustainable economic opportunities across the State.
The support items distributed include: refrigerators ,gas cookers, grinding and sewing machines among others.
These items were presented on Tuesday at a pre-rally empowerment programme held at Government House, Lafia .
The high-level event, organised under the directive of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was a strategic platform to highlight national gender-inclusive policies, grassroots welfare initiatives, and the political representation of women.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said that the pre-rally initiative was specifically mandated by the First Lady to energise and reassure Nigerian women of the President Tinubu led administration’s steadfast commitment to their well-being.
”We are here on the directive of Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, Mother of the Nation.
She sent us here to come and do a pre-rally empowerment for the women, to excite them, you know, to be able to reiterate her commitment to the economic empowerment of our women and their social welfare and wellbeing,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated.
She lauded the First Lady’s drive, describing her as relentless in advocating for women’s contributions to the broader national economy.
”We know that Her Excellency, as she assumes this role, she has not sat down. In fact, one of her nicknames is the ‘Last Pro Max’ because she’s constantly thinking of how she can support women so that they can contribute to the vision of Mr. President and what he wants for the larger economy,” she noted.
Highlighting government interventions, the Minister emphasised unprecedented investments across sectors including health, education, and social infrastructure. She announced major health and hygiene milestones, including an upcoming distribution drive for female hygiene products.
”From the investment, the level of attention that women are getting, the prioritisation that we’re getting from the administration, there’s no sector, there’s no way for the women, there’s none investment has gone over 1,000%.
“Now we have a menstrual hygiene policy. Very soon, we’ll have free female hygiene folder. In Nigeria, the President said that the way we continue, we have free condoms, we must also have free menstrual pads, because women must menstruate every month,” she added.
Addressing political inclusion, the Minister affirmed that structural changes are underway to exceed the 35% affirmative action target for women in governance.
”Yes, you will see it. Because as I speak to you, there’s something big coming… there’s an executive bill that is cooking that will afford for women to be even more than 35% in the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” she assured.
Also speaking at the event, the APC National Women Leader and Director of the APC Women Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Dr. Mary Idele, emphasised the importance of policy continuity and grassroots stability.
Dr. Idele drew attention to key educational and infrastructural strides made under the administration, including educational safety nets for students and improved transportation corridors for farmers.
”In Nigeria today, I can tell you since His Excellency became the President of Nigeria, can anybody tell me how many times schools have gone on strike? The answer is zero, because people are happy,” she noted.
“Can you tell me about the coastal roads that have been done? Farmers are happy because they can move their goods from one state to another state, because all these things affect us in the grassroots, and we want to tell them that His Excellency is the only government that have prioritised appointment for women up to more than 40 something percent.”
Host and First Lady of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, expressed deep gratitude to the Federal Government and Senator Oluremi Tinubu for prioritising the advancement of women, whom she described as the backbone of home management and social structure.
She praised the First Lady’s dedicated focus on educational infrastructure, referencing community projects such as solar-powered libraries aimed at empowering future generation.
