The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Solomon Iorpev, has appealed to the Acting Head of Service, Dr. Eunice Ihu, to implement the resolution of the National Council on Establishment for the creation of Departments of Information and Public Relations in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state civil service.
Chief Iorpev said the creation of Public Relations departments would strengthen information management and give proper visibility to government policies and programmes, provide career advancement opportunities for Information Officers, and enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in the discharge of their duties.
The Commissioner made the appeal on Tuesday when he led the management staff of the Ministry of Information and Orientation on a courtesy visit to the Acting Head of Service. He also called for the inclusion of staff of The Voice Newspaper and Information Officers in the weigh-in allowance scheme enjoyed by their counterparts in other government establishments.
Chief Iorpev further appealed to the Head of Service to facilitate the restructuring of departments within the Ministry to promote efficiency and ensure optimal performance.
He explained that the visit was a follow-up to earlier letters written to her office on the issues and urged her to give them the necessary attention.
The Commissioner also appealed for speedy approval of promotions for directors in the Ministry, noting that the process had been unduly delayed.
Responding, the Acting Head of Service, Dr. Ihu, assured the delegation that the issues raised would be considered with a view to addressing them.
Dr. Ihu commended the Commissioner for his pragmatic leadership and disclosed that her office was already working on the delayed promotion approvals, expressing optimism that the necessary approvals would be released soon.
