Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has charged members of his second-term re-election campaign council to reject any proposed political alliance or arrangement that could undermine the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party must remain united and focused on securing victory at the polls.

Mutfwang declared that the Plateau APC was not part of any proposed “rainbow coalition,” stressing that the party would pursue its political ambition as a united front.

The governor made the declaration on Monday in Jos while inaugurating his re-election campaign council at the Government House. He congratulated members on their appointments and expressed appreciation for accepting the responsibility of coordinating his second-term campaign.

Governor Mutfwang called on the electorate to consider his administration’s achievements and renew its mandate, insisting that his government had made significant efforts to address insecurity, hunger and other challenges confronting the state.

He disclosed that his administration had recruited and trained 800 forest guards as part of intensified efforts to tackle insecurity and restore peace to communities across Plateau State.

On the prevailing economic hardship, the governor acknowledged that hunger was real and expressed concern over the difficulties confronting ordinary Nigerians.

He, however, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its efforts to stabilize the economy, strengthen the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and improve the country’s external reserves.

Governor Mutfwang appealed to Plateau residents to massively vote for both him and President Tinubu in the forthcoming elections, arguing that continuity in leadership would enable both administrations to consolidate their achievements.

The governor further promised that, if re-elected, his administration would intensify efforts to ensure the return of all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.

On the removal of fuel subsidy, Mutfwang described the previous subsidy arrangement as fraudulent, alleging that substantial public funds had been committed to a system in which payments were made without corresponding benefits.

He maintained that although fuel had become more expensive following the removal of the subsidy, its availability had improved.

According to him, the Tinubu administration is working towards restoring critical sectors of the economy, including education, adding that thousands of Plateau indigenes are benefiting from educational opportunities abroad.

Declaring his determination to secure a second term, the governor told the campaign council that his return to the government house was not negotiable.

“Go and tell everyone that there is no vacancy in government house. I am optimistic that the people of Plateau State will renew our mandate,” he declared.

Mutfwang acknowledged the support he had received from the people since assuming office but stressed that the campaign team must work harder to secure a convincing victory.

He said his ambition was to consolidate the achievements of his administration and ensure continuity of the development process.

The governor consequently urged the campaign council not to neglect any political, religious, ethnic or social sector of the state, insisting that every community and interest group must be reached.

Earlier, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, charged members of the campaign council to work towards securing victory for all party candidates.

Bature described the council members as credible and trustworthy personalities capable of delivering on the responsibility entrusted to them.

He maintained that Governor Mutfwang had performed creditably across various sectors and therefore deserved another term to consolidate his achievements.

The APC chairman cautioned the campaign team against taking anything for granted, urging members to embark on extensive grassroots mobilisation across all parts of Plateau State.

In his response, the Chairman of the Campaign Council, Sir Joe Ari, assured the governor of the council’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a successful re-election campaign.

Ari described the assignment as a call to service and a responsibility that the members had accepted with a strong sense of duty and commitment.

He disclosed that since the announcement of the campaign council, no fewer than 115 support groups had indicated interest in partnering with the council to secure Mutfwang’s re-election.

He assured the governor that the confidence reposed in the council would not be misplaced, promising that members would work collectively to achieve the desired electoral outcome.

Ari further called for unity, teamwork and sustained mobilisation among members, stressing that the campaign would require dedication and collective responsibility.

“We accept this assignment with a strong sense of responsibility. We are called to serve, and we shall not fail you, Your Excellency,” he assured.
