Plateau State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Raymond Dabo, has cautioned the party’s 28 candidates contesting various elective positions, including the governorship, against engaging in campaigns of calumny and character assassination.
Hon. Dabo gave the charge on Monday at the party secretariat in Jos, during the presentation of Certificates of Return to the party’s candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and the three Senatorial Districts in the state.
He urged the candidates to embark on issue-based campaigns to enable them to attract more supporters and win the confidence of the electorate.
The PDP chairman assured the candidates of the party’s support throughout the electioneering process. He, however, stressed that the party expects absolute loyalty and commitment from all its members.
Dabo told the gathering that the Turaki-led PDP was determined to unseat the incumbent administration in the 2027 general elections and disclosed that the party’s presidential candidate, former President, Goodluck Jonathan, would soon visit Plateau State on a solidarity visit.
The PDP governorship candidate, Sunday Biggs, pledged his loyalty and faithfulness to the party.
He congratulated all the candidates contesting for various political offices and commended the party for affirming their candidacies through the issuance of the certificates.
Biggs disclosed that he had earlier received his Certificate of Return at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. On the acceptability of the PDP in Plateau State, Biggs appealed to the people of the state to vote for PDP candidates in the 2027 general elections to enable the party to take over the administration of the state.
Commenting on the authenticity of the Turaki-led faction of the party, the Plateau State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Gyang Tanko, in an interview with journalists, said the matter was still before the court.
