The Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State has officially declared Ashime Benjamin as its Candidate for the upcoming Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election, scheduled for June 20, 2026.
Benjamin emerged through a consensus and affirmation vote during a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Akwanga Local Government Area, attended by party officials, delegates, and monitors from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking to journalists in Lafia, the State LP Chairman, Alexander Ombugu, said Benjamin’s nomination reflects the unanimous voice of the party.
Ombugu expressed confidence in Benjamin’s credibility, adding that the LP remains unified and strongly positioned for both the upcoming by-election and the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to his nomination, Benjamin thanked the party leadership and supporters, and pledged to provide quality grassroots representation.
He promised to honour the legacy of the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki and focus on sponsoring legislations aimed at improving local livelihoods if elected.
