A tragic accident occurred on Saturday at Abenga community, along the Aliade-Makurdi Road, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving one person critically injured. The accident involved a Honda Civic saloon car with a car dealer sticker, which eyewitnesses said had been driven at high speed and lost control. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road, resulting in the fatal crash.
Two occupants of the car were confirmed dead at the scene, while a third victim was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Residents of Abenga, who gathered at the scene shortly after the incident, expressed shock over the accident, describing it as sudden and heartbreaking. Emergency responders and security personnel later arrived to manage the situation and clear the road.
The crash has renewed concerns about frequent accidents on the Aliade-Makurdi Road, a busy route often plagued by over-speeding, poor road conditions, and mechanical failures.
Members of the community have called on motorists to exercise caution and urged authorities to step up road safety enforcement, especially the speedy completion on the ongoing dualization of the road to prevent further loss of life.
