The Kunav Progressive Academics (KPA) has commended the recent reconciliation and peace meeting between the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator (Dr) George Akume.
This commendation was conveyed in a statement issued by KPA who described the meeting as a landmark development which represents a crucial step toward strengthening unity, fostering political stability, and advancing the collective interests of Benue State and its people.
According to the statement, KPA said, “As a body dedicated to intellectual advancement, social cohesion, and progressive governance, we view this reconciliation as a timely and necessary intervention that reaffirms the primacy of dialogue over discord. When differences arise among leaders, the ability to come together in a spirit of peace reflects maturity, patriotism, and a deep sense of responsibility toward the citizenry.
“We particularly commend His Excellency, Governor Alia, for demonstrating exemplary leadership through humility and courage. His willingness to openly express regret where necessary stands as a profound testament to his character—a leader who understands that true leadership is not about infallibility, but about accountability and the readiness to place the greater good above personal pride. In doing so, he has set a commendable standard for political leadership in Nigeria.
“Leadership, especially in our dear state, demands not only decisiveness but also the grace to acknowledge missteps and the wisdom to pursue reconciliation. Governor Alia’s disposition in this regard reinforces public confidence in his administration and strengthens the moral fabric of governance in the state.
“We equally recognize and appreciate the role played by Senator (Dr) George Akume in embracing the path of peace, thereby contributing to an atmosphere that is conducive to constructive engagement and mutual respect. We further commend him for boldly calling on party stakeholders and the good people of Benue State to rally behind Governor Alia in support of a second term. This position reflects confidence in the developmental strides and transformative leadership of the Governor, thereby pledging continuity, stability, and sustained development.
“We also extend our profound commendation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his keen interest and pivotal role in fostering unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State. President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to harmony among party leaders has been instrumental in bridging gaps and averting protracted political crises. We further appreciate his continued support for Governor Alia’s APC-led government in the state, which has provided the necessary political stability and federal backing to drive developmental initiatives. His statesmanship and inclusive leadership remain a beacon of hope for internal party democracy and national cohesion.”
KPA in the statement jointly signed by Professor Benjamin Gowon Ahule, Professor Daniel Ngusha Chile, Rev. Fr. Professor Vitalis Torwel and Professor Damian Anyam among others, further called on members of the National Assembly and the Benue State House of Assembly to accept the outcome of this reconciliation meeting in good faith and align with its spirit saying at this critical juncture, unity of purpose among all arms and levels of leadership is imperative.
“We urge them to join hands with the Governor in the collective pursuit of peace, stability, and the delivery of more dividends of democracy to the good people of Benue State,” KPA stated while urging all stakeholders, political actors, and citizens of Benue State to draw inspiration from this development and continue to support initiatives that promote unity, peace, and sustainable development.
