The Vice Chancellor, Father Adasu University, Makurdi, Professor Timothy Alabar, has underscored the importance of collaboration with the media in promoting the institution’s goals and contributing to societal development. He stated this on Monday in his office in Makurdi during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, led by Comrade Bemdoo Ugber.
Professor Alabar, who welcomed journalists to the institution, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with them for information dissemination and promoting the university’s goals. He deemed their visit timely and assured them that their request would be considered, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to partnership and progress.
“The university values its relationship with the media and believes in mutual support,” he said. “As you cover our activities, we also expect you to help project our image. We are proud of our alumni, and we believe that with your support, we can achieve greater heights.”
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the importance of verification in reporting, urging journalists to always confirm information through official channels to avoid spreading misinformation. “Recently, our university has faced several challenges, including unwarranted attacks from both internal and external sources,” he noted.
He encouraged the journalists to help correct inaccuracies and promote the university’s positive image. He thanked the journalists for their visit and promised continued engagement, emphasizing the university’s commitment to transparency and collaboration.
Earlier, the Chairman of NUJ, Benue State Council, Comrade Ugber, commended the university’s visitor, Governor Hyacinth Alia, for appointing a seasoned academic like Professor Alabar as Vice Chancellor, citing his academic excellence, integrity, and leadership prowess. He expressed confidence that the university would witness remarkable growth and innovation under his stewardship.
Comrade Ugber praised Professor Alabar for his openness and willingness to engage with stakeholders, and pledged to collaborate with the university in promoting truth, development, and progress.
The NUJ Chairman sought a strategic partnership with the university, particularly in capacity building, training, research, and knowledge exchange, to enhance journalists’ professionalism and contribute to societal development.
He requested support for the NUJ Secretariat’s ICT Centre, specifically five laptops to improve journalists’ digital skills, pledging the union’s unwavering support for the growth and development of Father Adasu University.
