The Head Coach of Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi, John Onuh (Abacha) has said his team’s supremacy over ABS Ilorin was because his boys played to instructions given them.
Coach Onuh made this known to sports journalists on Saturday, after the Makurdi based side cracked the nut in the Ilorin based side by 2-0 in the Match Day 11 confrontation of the 2025/26 NNL at the McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi. He said, “I have the feeling that I have a well disciplined team because they played to instructions”.
The Head Coach who expressed disappointment over the Match Day 10 combat in which Lobi bowed before the FC Basira by 0-2 at the Lafia City Stadium, confessed that, “the match was a very disappointing one so in today’s dogfight, we had an agreement that we will have to win because that is the only way to change the narratives and with God on our side, it paid off”.
While accepting that there are grey areas that he had identified in the team and would need some touches for optimal productivity, he explained that, “certainly, there are areas that need some touches like upfront and in the midfield which we need to improve on seriously and when that is done, I think it will be very difficult for any team to defeat us anywhere”.
Coach Abacha as he is fondly called, praised his lads for the brilliant outing, assuring that, “I am working hard to get an away victory because since I came on board I’ve not been able to score an away goal let alone secure a victory. Although, we have succeeded in getting a point in the away scuffle in Sokoto and by the grace of God, in our next NNL tie against the Mighty Jets FC in Jos, things will change and we will return home with a good result”.
Reacting to his team’s loss, the Head Coach of ABS FC of Ilorin, Ogundeji Joel said he was coming with the expectation to flog Lobi under their nose saying, “I can’t go for a match and will not be expecting a win”.
Coach Ogundeji stated that football was a lucky game where you either lose or win, and while commending his wards for playing well despite the mistakes which he identified as the cause of their loss, assuring that they were going back to the drawing board and fix them so that they don’t occur again. He congratulated Lobi Stars FC on the win.
