The Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Hembadoon Orsar has been inaugurated as the Chairperson of the SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), to conduct the national SWAN elections that would usher in a new executive of the association.
Performing the ceremony via a virtual meeting of the SWAN Full Council on Thursday night, the President of SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin, who said Orsar was the first woman in the history of SWAN in Nigeria, to hold such an exalted position in the electoral committee, stated that “your choice is based on merit and I urge you to conduct a free, fair and credible election. He congratulated the SWANECO members on their well deserved appointment.
In her acceptance speech, the Chairperson of the Committee and Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Hembadoon Orsar, assured members that not only would they organise a free, fair and widely acceptable election in accordance with the constitution of the SWAN, they would also carry everybody along.
“We want to thank the National Executive members of the SWAN led by Isaiah Benjamin, for finding us worthy of this rare opportunity to serve in this committee and I pledge the committee’s readiness, to justify the confidence reposed in us”.
It would be recalled that Orsar was elected as Chairman of the Benue State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in 2024, being the first woman in North Central Nigeria, to hold that position in SWAN, since Benue State was created in 1976.
