The Benue State Chapter of Labour Party (LP) has elected a new exco that will steer its affairs with Ambassador Emmanuel Agida from Oju local government area as Chairman. He succeeds Hon Ibrahim Idoko who is now the National Vice Chairman of the party.
LP’s new exco emerged at the State Congress of the party held Saturday, 6th December, 2025 in Makurdi.
The hitch free election produced all members of the State Working Committee (SWC) unanimously chosen as there were no challengers.
The new Chairman, Ambassador Agida in his acceptance speech promised to rebuild the party from the grassroots so as to take over the political structure of the country from local to the national levels.
He said Labour Party as a family affair and symbolised by the papa-mama-pikin logo, would maintain a round table dialogue to continue the rebuilding from strength to power, and enjoined Nigerians to have faith in the party’s ability to change things for the better.
” I want to appreciate your love, support and kindness that you have put in place. I promise with my cabinet that we will not fail you.
” I stand here to declare that the new Labour Party in Benue is possible. This time around our voices must be heard. We will work towards the success of this party come 2027. Tell your self it is possible”.
“And I need the support of all the local government chairmen. Iam one of you and today, God has elevated me to this position, you are the chairman, don’t sit, do something. This time around, we will talk, others will listen to us”, the chairman stated.
Earlier, the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Idoko who was also the national representative to the Congress explained that the party was all embracing and accommodating, even as it was one of the strongest opposition parties in the political space of Nigeria.
” If you doubt me, we came as underdogs in 2023 and despite the fact that Labour Party put up a fight such that has never been experienced in the political history of Nigeria, it is an indication that when commoners like me and you put our hearts in something, we can make it happen, we can change the story in Nigeria ”
” That is why I tell you don’t ever feel belittled as a member of Labour Party. I want to assure you of what happened in 2023, and with the green light we are seeing there, I assure you will never regret it. We shall put up a show that Nigeria will be happy.
” We are privileged because we are going to be part of history that will happen to Nigeria, come 2027, don’t bow down your heads, don’t be remorseful, don’t be apologetic, don’t be intimidated, don’t be cowards. I want you as you go out of this Congress carry your selves high and look at the other political party in the eye and tell them that 2027 we are winning”.
He charged both old and new members of the party in Benue to pull their strength and experiences together as they approach 2027.
He assured the new official of support and protection as they run activities of the party.
He explained that he was elevated to the position of National Vice Chairman during the party’s national convention and by the constitution he could no longer occupy the State position which was why he had to relinquish the State Chairman.
According to him, the support, respect and commitment he received from members in the State was overwhelming and he would reciprocate by extending same to the State Working Committee.
