A two-time governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Dr David Ombugadu has officially announced his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a recent visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Lafia , Dr Ombugadu revealed that his brief stint with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ended due to technical barriers that frustrated his supporters.
He explained that his exit from the ruling party was triggered by the APC’s refusal to open its e-registration portal, adding that the closure prevented his vast network of associates from formally joining the party, effectively stalling his political momentum.
”I didn’t ask for party positions or executive slots. My only request was for the portal to be opened so my supporters could register. When that didn’t happen, I had to move on to actualize my ambitions,” he clarified.
The former federal lawmaker, who previously represented the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba constituency, outlined a dual-track political strategy.
He said that his intention was to contest the upcoming bye-election for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District to fill the current vacancy created following the demise of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
Dr Ombugadu stated that following the senate term, he would be running for the Nasarawa State governorship in 2027 on the platform of the PDP.
In an unusual alliance , despite his return to the opposition PDP, Ombugadu declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
He cited the President’s ongoing reforms and national projects as the primary reasons for this cross-party endorsement.
During his session with the press, Ombugadu emphasised his “workable blueprint” for state development, focusing on his past track record in healthcare, water supply and Youth employment as well as economic empowerment.
He called for a strategic partnership with the media, describing journalists as the “mirror of society” essential for refining developmental goals.
Supporting the move, the PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), Hon Francis Orogu, urged residents to rally behind the party.
He expressed full confidence in Ombugadu’s leadership, asserting that the PDP remains the most credible platform for improving the welfare of Nigerians.
