2027: Migili nation rejects Akwashiki, supports Akaba

The Migili nation, under the umbrella of the Migili Professionals Initiative (MPI), both at home and in the diaspora, has strongly disassociated itself from the recent endorsement of Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki as the sole candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

MPI’s rebuttal follows an announcement made on October 17, 2026, by the Migili Youth Association (MYA), which claimed to have adopted Hon. Akwashiki as the sole candidate for the election.

In an official press statement released on Monday, the Chairman of the Migili Professionals Initiative, Hon. Polycarp Dan Agidi, described the purported endorsement as false, null, void, and lacking any binding effect on the ethnic group.

”We hereby denounce and completely disassociate ourselves from that shambolic act of endorsement. It was done in error, without wider consultation and consent of the majority, as well as that of the Migili Professionals Initiative and critical stakeholders of the Migili Nation. A few individuals cannot sit in a corner and mortgage the political destiny of the Migili people,” Hon. Agidi declared.

Clarifying the group’s political stance, the MPI Chairman emphasized that the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency seat must be occupied by a candidate of Migili extraction in 2027, citing decades of political marginalisation.

”The seat of the House of Representatives for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency is now the turn of Migili nation. It is a matter of justice, equity, and fair play. For over 43 years, we have supported and voted for other tribes to represent us at the National Assembly.

“We have been used only for our votes during every election cycle, yet, there is no tangible, palpable, and verifiable development in our constituency to show for it,” the statement read.

Hon. Agidi stated that while the ethnic group remains open to political alliances, it will no longer settle for a subordinate role in Nasarawa State politics.

The MPI formally declared Engr. Akaba Joshua Peter as the sole, adopted candidate of the Migili nation for the House of Representatives seat.

”We have Engr. Akaba Joshua Peter, a competent, credible, and prepared son of the soil, who has the pedigree, readiness, leadership quality, and capacity to provide inclusive representation that will attract development to the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency.

”Engr. Akaba is not a pretender. His vision matches the needs and aspirations of the grassroots. He is the only aspirant who can pull a surprise victory at the grassroots because he lives with the people and understands their pains. He is ready to deliver,” Agidi stated.

The statement further asserted that, the adoption of Engr. Akaba is “sealed, sacrosanct, and non-negotiable.”
The leadership of MPI warned and insisted that any future engagements must go through recognised, legitimate channels.

”We therefore send a strong signal to all other aspirants parading themselves that the Migili nation will no longer be taken for granted. Any person seeking our support must come through legitimate leadership structure of the Migili Nation,” he warned.

The statement called on all sons and daughters of the Migili Nation to disregard the earlier announcement by the youth association and remain united behind Engr. Akaba Joshua Peter ahead of the 2027 polls.
