Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Sam Ode, has congratulated former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, on his 92nd birthday anniversary, describing him as a distinguished elder statesman whose patriotism and commitment to national unity remain worthy of emulation.
In a congratulatory message on Monday through the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Ior Ikyereve, Dr. Ode commended General Gowon for his service to the nation and his unwavering belief in a united Nigeria.
He noted that Gowon’s historic philosophy of “No Victor, No Vanquished” which emphasised reconciliation and national healing after the civil war, remains a significant lesson in nation-building.
The Deputy Governor also lauded the former Head of State’s sustained commitment to praying for the country through the Nigeria Prays initiative, describing it as a testament to his enduring faith in Nigeria’s capacity to overcome its challenges and achieve lasting peace and progress.
He urged Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious or political differences, to draw inspiration from General Gowon’s example by promoting mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and collective commitment to national development.
Dr. Ode prayed for God’s continued blessings, sound health and renewed strength for the elder statesman and his family, wishing him many more fruitful years of service to humanity and the nation.
