A group operating under the aegis of Concerned All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Nasarawa State has alleged widespread irregularities, favouritism, and structural compromise during the recent Senatorial and House of Representatives primary elections.
At a press briefing held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) Press Centre in Lafia on Tuesday, the Nasarawa State capital, the group openly rejected the outcome of the legislative primaries held across the 13 local government areas of the State.
The leader of the group, Hon. Abdullahi Yammani, expressed deep dissatisfaction over the logistics and execution of the shadow elections, warning that the party faces a severe internal crisis if the irregularities are not immediately rectified.
”Our attention has been drawn to the irregularities that characterised the conduct of the recent APC Senatorial and House of Representatives primary elections in Nasarawa State.
“As concerned members and stakeholders of our great party, we find it necessary to express our dissatisfaction over the way the exercise was conducted in some parts of the state”, Yammani said.
According to him, the exercise was heavily compromised by the deliberate disenfranchisement of party faithful through the non-supply or delayed arrival of crucial voting materials.
He gave the breakdown of the worst-hit areas within the Lafia federal constituency and its environs to include; Gayam and Akurba wards, Wakwa and Agyaragu wards Assakio and Ashige wards, Shabu/Kwandare, BAD, and Arikya wards.
Yammani revealed that information available to the group showed it was impossible for party members to fully participate in the exercise in those locations.
”It is also unfortunate that there was no properly coordinated arrangement for the collation and submission of results across the State, a situation which created confusion and raised serious concerns about the credibility and transparency of the entire process.
”Officials expected from the national headquarters of the party were not visibly present in several affected areas during the election”, he added.
He accused the State APC leadership of abandoning neutrality to skew the process in favour of preferred, pre-selected aspirants, alleging favouritism which he argued, has severely punctured the morale of the party’s members.
Yammani appealed to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe and the national working committee to intervene in the interest of peace, justice and unity of the party.
He also demanded the establishment of properly designated, identifiable, and publicly known collation centres across the state to ensure transparency in vote counting.
The leader of the group also called for absolute fairness, equity, and justice, insisting that all aspirants must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights free from intimidation, favouritism, or administrative manipulation.
”If these concerns are not properly addressed, they may create avoidable internal issues capable of affecting the unity, stability, and overall progress of the party in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
”We remain committed to the growth, unity, and success of our great party and trust that the national leadership will act accordingly”, he stated.
