Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has formally endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor in the forth coming 2027 governorship election.
He made the endorsement on Thursday during an expanded consultative meeting with political appointees and heads of government agencies at the Government House, Lafia.
The Governor described Senator Wadada as the personification of the “Muje Maha” philosophy, a principle of political inclusivity and collective progress that has defined his administration.
During the session, Governor Sule provided an in-depth breakdown of the rigorous selection process for the most viable candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stated that the search for a successor has been a year-long undertaking characterised by extensive domestic and international consultations.
According to him, the process involved engagements with foreign investors, traditional rulers, youth and women’s organizations, and party stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of the State.
”We focused on identifying individuals with the proven capacity to secure a mandate in a competitive election”, the Governor stated.
He explained that after a comprehensive evaluation, the pool of potential candidates was narrowed down to three highly qualified individuals.
The Governor stated that following further strategic assessment, Senator Wadada emerged as the best choice to lead the party to victory.
He commended the aspirants from the Nasarawa West Senatorial District for their political maturity, noting that the aspirants had reached a mutual agreement to support the party’s choice.
Addressing concerns regarding regional equity, Governor Sule confirmed his support for a balanced distribution of elective offices within the Nasarawa West zone.
He resolved that if the governorship is settled in one federal constituency, the senatorial and other legislative seats should be strategically allocated to the other for fair representation.
In a direct charge to his political appointees, the Governor acknowledging individual preferences during the consultations phase, the period for internal competition was over and Wadada emerged the choice.
”If we are sincere about the ‘Muje Maha’ principle, we must recognize that at this moment, Wadada represents that collective vision,” Governor Sule remarked.
He emphasised that this unity must extend beyond the governorship to include all APC candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly.
He cautioned supporters against disparaging those who were not selected, maintaining that the decision was not a commentary on the competence of other aspirants, but rather a strategic choice based on a multi-dimensional assessment of the current political landscape.
Regarding the 2027 presidential race, Governor Sule expressed immense confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prospects in the state stressing that the President’s broad appeal in Nasarawa transcends traditional and political divides, describing it as a positive indicator for the APC’s overall success.
Earlier in the proceedings, the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, reaffirmed the cabinet’s unwavering loyalty to the Governor’s vision.
He assured the administration that the appointees were prepared to mobilise support and communicate the party’s unified direction to every ward across the state.
